What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a non-invasive skin resurfacing procedure, also known as collagen induction therapy. The procedure involves a small, handheld device with tiny micro-needles. It passes over the skin, creating tiny channels, or micro-wounds, on the skin. The micro-wounds trigger the production of new collagen and elastin, including new capillaries to improve blood supply. The creation of these micro-wounds can also allow topical products to penetrate the skin deeper than they normally would. The skin’s ability to utilize the nutrients in the products increases up to 3,000%.
One of the topical products that can be used is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). PRP is useful for the patients that desire to take advantage of their own healing power (by the growth factors found in the plasma) to improve their results/outcomes.
Growth factors found in PRP:
-FGF (fibroblast growth factor): tissue repair, cell growth, collagen production
-PDGF (platelet derived growth factor): cell growth, new generation and repair of blood vessels, collagen production
-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor): growth and new generation of vascular endothelial cells
-TGF-B (transforming growth factor betal): growth of epithelial cells, endothelial cells, promotion of wound healing
-KGF (keratinocyte growth factor): growth and new generation of keratinocytes
-EGF (epidermal growth factor): promotion of epithelial cell growth, angiogenesis, promotion of wound healing
Who would benefit from Microneedling with PRP?
Everyone is a candidate for this procedure, as long as you do not have a medical condition called thrombocytopenia. See below for the skin conditions that would benefit from the procedure, as well as other benefits:
-Improves the appearance of broken capillaries and spider veins
-Helps reduce enlarged pores
-Corrects acne scarring
-Corrects uneven skin tones
-Improves skin laxity with skin tightening at areas such as neck, cheeks
-Helps reduce wrinkles and fine lines, decreasing amount of botox and filler use over time
-Provides a youthful, healthy glow
-Firms and smooths the skin
-Lightens sun spots, hyperpigmentation/skin damage (melasma)
-Boosts self-confidence
How long does the procedure last?
It is a non-invasive procedure performed in our outpatient clinic. You will need to set aside 1.5-2 hours at the HH from start to finish. We will apply lidocaine topically to reduce any discomfort during the procedure. You can drive your self to and from the appointment. For best results, you will want to set aside about 24 hours post procedure to keep your PRP on your treatment site before washing it off of your skin.
What is the cost of Microneedling with PRP at the HH? And, will I need more than one treatment?
The procedure is $750 for the PRP Microneedling with Facial PRP Injections. We have great success with one treatment for many of our patients. However, we have patents that will have this procedure repeated months down the road to build upon their results or to achieve outcomes they desire. Each patient is different, and many of the outcomes will be determined based off your underlying medical conditions and overall health/wellness. We typically do not have anyone that needs schedule for more than 2-3 treatments within a years time.
